The wealth you own
outside the business
outside the business
This is the money that belongs to you personally, together with what you move into it each year. It is the number your business exists to grow.

Where your money sits changes how much you keep
Enter actual balances and the calculator works out a blended tax rate on your future withdrawals.
- Tax-deferred (IRA, 401k, SEP, RRSP, workplace pension): every dollar you withdraw is taxed as ordinary income.
- Tax-free (Roth, HSA, TFSA, ISA): withdrawals are tax-free, which makes these your most valuable freedom dollars.
- Taxable brokerage: gains are generally taxed at long-term capital gains rates, which is often more efficient than people expect.

✦ Clarity Corner
Everything you see is in today's dollars
You enter your lifestyle at today's prices and every result comes back in today's purchasing power, so you are always comparing like with like. Inflation is still doing its work behind the scenes wherever it matters:
- Investment growth is reduced by inflation, so an 8% return with 2.5% inflation grows your money at about 5.4% in real terms.
- Fixed payments such as a fixed-rate mortgage, a level pension or a whole life premium do not rise with prices, so they are converted into what they will be worth at your freedom date.
- Taxes on a sale are calculated on the future sale price, because the IRS does not adjust your purchase price or the home-sale exclusion for inflation.
- Healthcare can be set to rise faster than general inflation below.
Investment Assumptions
%
Nominal, before inflation.
%
Usually lower, as portfolios become more conservative.

4% for a 25 to 30 year freedom phase, 3.5% for 30 to 35 years, 3% for 40 years or more.

Savings rates move often, so check what your account pays today.

Healthcare costs have often risen faster than other prices. Add a margin here if you want to plan conservatively.

Financial freedom is about spending differently, and many women travel most in their early freedom years, so plan that season generously.

Healthcare is the line to be most generous with, especially if your freedom age comes before your public coverage begins (Medicare at 65 in the US), because you will be paying for private coverage in the years between.
Income That Arrives Without Your Portfolio
$
Use the estimate in today's dollars from ssa.gov or your national pension service. These benefits rise with inflation, so no adjustment is needed.
$
A fixed pension buys less every year, so we convert it to today's dollars for you.
Every $1,000 a month of guaranteed income reduces the portfolio you need by $300,000 at a 4% withdrawal rate.

Selling your business one day is worth modelling as upside, while your plan should still work without it.

What makes a business worth buying
Buyers pay for profit that continues without you. Recurring revenue, documented systems, a team that runs delivery and clean financials all raise the multiple, and a business that depends on you personally lowers it. Tax planning for a sale has to be set up well before you sign anything, so bring your CPA in early.

Your personal debt

Optional. Debt is information, and including it gives you a true net worth view alongside your assets. Leave out your home mortgage, which is already part of your housing costs, and business debt, which belongs in the exit step.

Two targets, two intentions
Your Legacy Freedom Number lets you live on what your portfolio earns, so the principal stays intact for the people and causes you love. Your Full Life Freedom Number is the smaller amount you need if you plan to spend your wealth down over your freedom years. Both are valid, and they simply reflect different intentions for your money.
