The Power Shift: How Women are Redefining Wealth, Investing, and the Economy

There’s a transformative shift happening across the board—maybe you’re noticing it, too.  Big systems are crumbling to make way for the new. Mainstream media is being replaced by social media and alternative platforms, the workforce is redefining what it looks like to have a 9-5, we’ve gotten incredibly knowledgeable about the “clean” movement as it pertains to what we put in and on our bodies…the list goes on.

What I want to focus on here is the economic shift that women are behind.  We are on track to hold the majority of disposable income by 2030.  We are influencing entire industries and setting new trends in investing and consumer markets. Not to mention, the way we handle personal finance.

The Current and Growing Economic Power of Women
Women are already major players in the consumer market, driving up to 80% of household spending worldwide. However, historically, we haven’t engaged in managing our own finances at the same level. This is changing.

Back in 2020, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) reported that women’s wealth growth rate could surpass men’s in the next several years.  That is because we have become more active in business, entrepreneurship, and higher-paid fields.  Along with this shift comes the need - and desire! - to get in the driver’s seat of our financial lives.

Many people look upon the Covid era as an entirely negative experience, but without that complete and utter disruption, the impetus for innovation would’ve stagnated.  For example - I, for one, have come to value working from home as a need, not a luxury, in order to have a chance at managing work and life responsibilities in a healthy way.  I’ve seen the impact it has had on my ability to lean into business opportunities, to tick things off my bucket list (I’ll tell you about my solo Ireland trip another time) and to be more present at home.  I can’t see another way that I was going to be given space and time to seed The Wealth Visionnaire without going into burnout mode.  I know for many other women like me, similar things were and are happening.

Women’s Impact on Spending and Consumer Markets
Our spending power is reshaping industries. From healthcare to real estate, retail, and travel, our choices and preferences drive demand and influence how companies create and market products. More companies are now responding to women’s influence by developing female-focused products, campaigns, and services, with many pivoting toward wellness, sustainability, and family-oriented solutions.

We’re seeing growth in products that emphasize health and wellness, sustainability, and quality family care options. Companies are investing in cleaner, eco-friendly products and services, healthier food options, and enhanced family-oriented experiences. Our focus on sustainability is pushing industries toward greener practices, proving that consumer power can lead to positive change in environmental and societal standards.

Women as Investors and Wealth Managers
The increase in women investors marks another major shift. More women are engaging in the stock market, real estate investments, and other financial ventures. Additionally, women are embracing values-based investing, such as choosing sustainable or ethical funds (e.g., ESG funds).

This focus on aligning finances with values is setting a new standard in the industry, and financial institutions are taking note.  Companies like Fidelity now provide programs and products tailored to women’s financial needs. Yet, too many women are finding that these offers seem more like a marketing tactic than a genuine shift in perspective.

I know this all too well.  With nearly 20 years in finance, I’ve sat in on conversations where women are intentionally left out.  It only drove my passion for stepping into this space.  My investing course is set up to support women, specifically.  If you’re just getting started, check out my brokerage account masterclass.

Women are uniquely positioned to influence and invest in things we care about, which creates a positive impact to both our daily lives and our finances.  We truly couldn’t have a better opportunity placed before us.

Shaping the Future of the Economy and Corporate World
Some of us really do belong in a more traditional 9-5, and we are driving evolution in the corporate world through increased leadership representation and entrepreneurship.  Did you know that firms like Goldman Sachs now require board diversity for companies to go public?

With female-led businesses on the rise, we are making significant strides in economic growth and job creation while advocating for significant social and economic reforms, including family leave, pay equity, and equal opportunities for career advancement. We are a force!

I’m so lit up to be here, empowering women and the positive impacts we’ll make collectively.  We are paving the way for a more balanced and resilient future for all.  As I look over at my daughters, the future I envision for them is dependent on the steps we all take now.

The next decade promises to be transformative, and I’m here for it!
